Venasque, classed as one of "The Most beautiful villages of France"
With its strong geographic location and its medieval heritage still intact, Venasque is a village in the Vaucluse that absolutely must not be missed. Its old stones, its narrow cobbled lanes and its esplanade at the top, from which you can admire the hills of the Vaucluse, the Dentelles de Montmirail and Mont Ventoux, make it one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France".
Around the village, beautiful country walks allow you the opportunity to discover the surrounding nature and the large expanses of cherry trees as far as the eye can see.
The Baptistery
This 6th century baptistery is unbelievably well preserved.
Remodelled several times over the centuries and incorporated into the 13th century church, the large building was used twice a year to baptise adults by immersion in ceremonies performed exclusively by the bishop.
The hole where the octagonal baptismal font was placed is still visible today.
The Cherry
In Venasque, the cherry reigns supreme and is at the heart of the village’s farming activity. The most widely cultivated variety is specific to the place and called the "Monts de Venasque".
During the Spring, the village takes on a Japanese feel as the cherry blossom comes into bloom. From May until the end of July, the fields are a hub of activity as the harvest season begins and you will find the fruit on the stalls of many Provençal markets.
Venasqu'ânes
This farm offers walks and hikes with donkeys to carry your children or transport your belongings. It’s a wonderfully quirky way of exploring the surrounding countryside and the perched village of Venasque, classed as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France”.
A day out in the fresh air that will appeal to parents and children alike. The farm also organises events to teach visitors about sheep, sheepdogs, bees and bee-keeping.
