Cycling and mountain biking
Made famous by the Tour de France, Mont Ventoux and its legendary slopes attract cyclists from all over the world...
If you prefer mountain-biking to road cycling, the mountains are packed full of paths and marked trails... And for those who like to explore the Provençal countryside by bike, there are many trails based on themes of lavender, water, dry masonry and others, so you can go where the wind takes you...
The Mont Ventoux Ascent
If you have decided to take up the challenge and face the legendary slopes of the Giant of Provence, bear in mind that it demands the appropriate physical preparation. Beneath the blazing sun, with inclines of over 10%, the Mont Ventoux ascent by bike is a brutal effort, and accidents are commonplace, so take care:
Bike Park du Mont Ventoux Sud mountain-biking park
As the summit of Mont Ventoux is a protected site, mountain-biking is strictly supervised. The Bike Park du Mont Ventoux is a mountain-biking site comprising 3 mountain-biking descent routes, a Pumptrack and a Skills Centre. The mountain-biking park is equipped with a mechanical lift (as with skiing, you perch on it while standing up on the pedals).

Discover the Mont Ventoux countryside by bike...
Provence à Vélo is your one-stop shop for planning your cycling trips through the Provençal countryside!
Many free routes are listed by theme, with IGN maps (equivalent to Ordinance Survey maps), etc. Here are a few examples:
- "The terraces of Ventoux"
- "The Sault Plateau"
- "At the foot of the Dentelles"
We also recommend "La Via Venaissia", a safe route reserved for "non-motorised" traffic. This former railway, transformed into a "voie verte" for cyclists and walkers, connects the villages of Sarrians and Jonquières.
