With your dog

Want to get away from it all with your four-legged friend? Provence is the ideal walking destination and to make it easier to choose days out with your pooch we have hand-picked a few ideas for walks and activities to do where your dog will be welcome.

The ochre fields of Provence with your dog

There are 4 accessible “dog-friendly” sites:

  • The Provençal Colorado in Rustrel: There are two possible routes for walking your dog on the lead around this site that resembles the set of a Western film.

  • The Ochre Trail (“Sentier des Ocres”) in Roussillon: Stretch your legs along this trail, with a short or longer route to choose from.

  • Les Demoiselles Coiffées: This small ochre site in the hamlet of Les Baux de Bédoin offers a beautiful walk far from the tourist crowds, and is ideal for letting your dog run off some steam :-)

  • The Ochre Trail of Mormoiron: Far less touristy than those in the Luberon, this is ideal for a long walk off the lead beneath the shade of the pine trees.

Find out more about these sites in our section on The Ochre Fields of Provence.

Hiking with your dog on Mont Ventoux

You have several hiking trails to choose from for exploring the summit of Mont Ventoux with your four-legged friend, who will be able to run free across the open spaces along some sections of the route. However, keep an eye on your pooch to avoid any accidents, particularly with the many cyclists along this legendary mountain pass.

Exploring heritage sites with your dog

Want to discover the Provençal heritage without leaving your dog behind?

  • In the heart of the Alpille mountains, visit the Château des Baux de Provence, a magnificent ruin with medieval fortress sitting atop a rocky plateau, where a magnificent panoramic view awaits you!

  • The Pont du Gard allows pets and is the perfect place for a walk, with many trails all around it. You can even take a dip in the Gardon river if time allows ;-)

Swimming with your dog

There are two lovely sites to visit for a refreshing drip with your pooch:

  • The Gorges of Toulourenc: This amazing natural site offers you the chance to paddle along the gorges!

  • The Cascades du Sautadet waterfalls: 1 hour and 15 minutes from Bédoin, these waterfalls located in La Roque-sur-Cèze, one of the villages classed as “the most beautiful villages in France” will make the ideal spot for spending a relaxing day in the water with your furry friend.
